Take a 1920s style to design your art deco bedroom that has bold and exciting patterns for a fun-filled room.

We love an Art Deco design style and weโ€™re sure you will too. The colours used are so gorgeous and the patterns are so intricate. An Art Deco style can be interpreted in your own way and you are able to form a modern-day twist with it. Every little detail in an Art Deco bedroom is thought through and the interior design brings beauty and glamour into the space.

We can tell you everything you need to know about the Art Deco style, while you pick out what inspiration you want to include in your style.

What are the characteristics of an Art Deco bedroom?

Typically, an art deco bedroom should feature geometric shapes that are paired with curved lines. You want to create a softness but still keep to the bold patterns. Common patterns include deco fans, zigzags, sunbursts, swirls and curves – just to name a few. The colour scheme is based around blush pink, navy blue a teal with brass or gold accents. Art Deco is inspired by the 1920s style with a modern take. Think glamour, crossed with rich textures and a sprinkle of metallics.

How does an Art Deco bedroom help you sleep?

An art deco style uses bold colours but they are also cool colours too which can help to keep you calm before bed. The warmth then comes from the brass or gold tones to make the bedroom feel cosier. A lot of the patterns and shapes of the furniture are curved which is calming and easy on the eye.

Products to help you create your Art Deco bedroom

There is quite a broad choice of products to make up Art Deco bedrooms, the main thing you want to do is include Art Deco colours with a touch of geometric shapes. That is the baseline for your Art Deco interior design.

Here is some inspiration for you.

Art Deco bed frame

Most definitely the focal point of the bedroom. You could simply add an Art Deco headboard to your current bed frame or create a whole new lease of life with a brand-new bed. There is the option for a simple bed and use accessories to create interest.

Orion Classic Upholstered Bed Frame

simba-bed-frame

We have opted for this upholstered bed frame from Simba. It is available in a handful of colours but we recommend Ink Blot for Art Deco bedrooms. The frame has a linen feel to it, featuring solid wood legs to keep it sturdy and durable. A tufted headboard finishes the look and gives it a chic, modern aesthetic. You can even get it in a bundle for a full bed makeover.

Lottie Pink Velvet Ottoman Storage Bed

Another choice is this beautiful pink storage bed. It is a great choice if you have limited space in your bedroom. Under the slatted base, you will see ample storage for your seasonal wardrobe, spare bedsheets and anything you need to keep tidied away. It is a soft velvet fabric with a fan-shaped headboard. If you are not keen on pink, there is a blue alternative which also fits perfectly with Art Deco.

Bedding

The choice of bedsheets can be carefully considered but there is an easy solution to picking the best ones. So, you could match the sheets to your bed frame – for example, pink with pink. On the other hand, you could use an alternative colour to your bed – for example, a blue bed frame with pink sheets or vice versa.

Blush Embroidered Reversible Duvet Cover and Pillowcase Set

paoletti-palmeria-blush-embroidered-reversible-duvet-cover-and-pillowcase-set

Such a gorgeous set that has the Deco fan pattern embroidered on the covers. The top of the cover is a sumptuous velvet fabric paired with a cotton finish underneath. You can have the best of both worlds – cool and comfortable on your skin while being soft and luxurious on the outer side. It's a no-brainer, it is everything you could want from your bedsheets. Plus, the colour is stunning!

Navy Oxford Pillowcase

If you want to break up the pink a little bit then we would suggest having a couple of blue pillows. This design is the perfect match. It has a luxe embroidered pattern with the same finish as the duvet cover set above. However, the pattern differs slightly but it creates a variation of the fan shapes. We love the Oxford-style border on these pillowcases, it makes them look even more incredible.

400 Thread Count Sateen Plain Dye Deep Fitted Sheet

All that's left to complete your bedsheet set is a fitted sheet. We found this sustainably made one that has a good thread count to give you a super soft touch. The cotton sateen has a lovely sheen to it to make you feel extra glamorous. There are plenty of colours to choose from for your fitted sheet but we have gone for the navy colour, of course. This product is even deep-fitted so it will fit over the deeper mattresses or a mattress with a topper.

Soft furnishings

You don't need to go over the top with the soft furnishings, just a few additions will look amazing. We have picked out some products that will give your bedroom just the right amount of decor, in a designer's world.

Velvet Cushion Cover

Teal green is another colour that works beautifully in Art Deco bedrooms. It is a rich shade that brings a modern-inspired design. Both the rectangular and the square cushions will look lovely on your bed, in front of the blush and navy pillows. The edging bobbles are the perfect finishing touch to add texture and interest to an Art Deco interior design.

Feather Filled Cushion

Now, if the cushion above is too plain for you and your style. Maybe you should consider this navy cushion. It has a gorgeous peacock feather pattern covering the whole cushion. This is certainly not plain – it puts the glam in glamour! You could even use both cushions as soft throw cushions to give your bed a makeover.

Chenille Plain Throw

chenille-plain-throw

This is a super soft and quality throw that drapes down the end of your bed. You can picture it all coming together – a couple of navy pillows and this navy throw sandwiching the pink bedsheets. Having just these few products can bring your Art Deco inspiration to life. The long tassels on the short edges add a delicate touch.

Deco Fan Art Deco Hand-Tufted Rug

niki-jones-deco-fan

Is your floor space looking a bit empty? Well, after seeing this rug you won't have to worry about that. It is made up of two shades of gold in the classic Deco fan shape. The curved design keeps a softness and the colour creates warmth in the room to balance out the cool colours used throughout.

Furniture

When it comes to furniture, you could find something vintage that can give the bedroom a dramatic feel. However, if you think that you will bring the dramatic vibe with other products then you can choose modern Art Deco bedroom furniture instead.

Art Deco White Arched Wall Mounted Shelf

First up, we picked out this floating shelf with open storage with a subtle wave to the framing. It really makes a difference to the overall look. This design feels open and airy which is something you would look for in a small room. The geometric shelf is glamorous and provides an ideal place to put your little knick-knacks.

Deco Style Side Table

cartizze

We are obsessed with this table. It has brass framing rails contrasting with a white marble top and base. This one gives you two different spaces to put your bedtime essentials on so you can keep everything you need at arms-reach. It will look so good next to your Art Deco bedframe. You could buy one for each side but just one of these tables will achieve your desired style.

Jaylynn Upholstered Accent Chair

An accent chair can complete your room and this one comes in varying Art Deco colours so no matter what colour scheme you choose, you can find one to match. It is effortlessly glam with a rounded fan-shaped back. The velvet finish is soft to the touch that gives a luxurious statement piece in Art Deco bedrooms.

Home decor

The home decor is what ties everything in the room together. All your inspiration can become the perfect mix once you add in the decor. It may be some of the smaller pieces in the room but that doesn't mean it won't change the interior design.

Astro Lighting Wall Light

If the pendant light wasn't enough, we have found a simple yet stylish wall light. These would look amazing on either side of the bed. They are the lights you can turn on when it is later in the evening, you no longer want the main lights on but you don't want to sit in pitch black. They have a gold framing and white frosted panelling so it will pair nicely with the main light.

Imperial 6 Light Brass And Opal Pendant Ceiling Light

Whether the light is on or off, this pendant is a bold feature. It is a great idea to incorporate brass into more of the room. Contemporary, chic and structured. This light has it all. the brass is shiny but the opal shades are matte. It will truly suit any Art Deco style or even a fancy modern room. It's one to be the centre of attention – literally.

Monroe Large Rectangular Wall Mirror

monroe-large-rectangular-wall-mirror

Let's be honest, your bedroom isn't complete without a mirror and we have found the best one for an Art Deco bedroom. It is a tiered shape that has a central mirror framed with two panels on each side. Intricate details give this a sense of elegance with a vintage-inspired border and gold edges. The size of it can help to make the room feel bigger too. What's not to love?

Recycled Glass Demi-John Vase

izolia-36cm-recycled-glass-demi-john-vase

A final finishing touch that can sit pretty on the shelf. It adds another pop of colour and another texture. You can have a plant in it or you can just have it for display purposes – the choice is yours. We think it looks lovely on its own. There is even the option to get it in a few other colours (including other blues).

High-Coloured Glass Vase

tamagni-21cm-high-coloured-glass-vase

For a different-sized vase, we picked this one out. Having this one and the previous one paired together on a shelf will be beautiful. The pink works with other features in the bedroom but you can use any of the other colour options depending on your preferences. Mix and matching can incorporate more from your colour palette.

Additional features

How you choose to decorate the bedroom can go one of two ways. There is the option of keeping the walls light and airy with white or a subtle colour. On the other hand, an easy way to have an Art Deco style is by using bright colours to paint the walls. You could pick a bold colour that matches your furniture or another rich shade.

If painting the walls isn't exciting enough, you could also paint the ceiling – perhaps in a lighter colour to keep the bedroom feeling spacious. It all depends on the inspiration you found and the other products you have selected for your bedroom.

As for the floor, natural wood-coloured flooring can provide warmth so your bedroom isn't overloaded with cool colours. If that isn't doable then just pop a rug in the space, like the one we mentioned earlier.

Wall art

Every bedroom needs bedroom art ideas. Personally, we wouldn't go too crazy with the artwork but it is good to have a couple of statement ones on the wall. Try to stick with your theme as much as possible. Here are the ones we liked:

art-deco-dream-art-print

Dream Art Print – This print offers something a bit different. It includes all the Art Deco colours with Art Deco shapes – everything has been thrown into this design to give a wow factor.

art-deco-art-print

Art Deco Art Print – An abstract style print with Art Deco colours that will look incredible printed large and framed above the bed.

Conclusion

Art Deco bedroom ideas can be combined with a modern bedroom, depending on the styles you are wanting. The bedroom is the main room in the house that you want to feel comfortable in and truly focus on your personal preferences. You can be inspired by an Art Deco design and mix it with your unique touch.

Hopefully, the search is now over and you can make a start on your dream Art Deco-inspired bedroom.
